That was the most challenging part. I think paper piecing could've been easier. I used the 'peaky' and 'spikey' rulers I have. The ends are the 'peaky' part and the sides are the 'spikey' cut on a fold. I made it a little bigger then trimmed it to size.
For those who may not know the peaky and spikey are the shapes in the star points of the 54-40 or fight quilt block. Here's a reference;
Quilt Block I think Fons and Porter called the shapes peaky and spikey.
