I use my ironing board for pressing (14 x 24 wool mat) and cutting (14 x 14 cutting mat) (and still leaves room for the iron and spray bottle at the skinny end). Also use it to hold part of my sandwiched quilt when machine quilting and as a craft table (lowering the height to pull up a chair and adding freeze paper if messy). That works for almost everything. The few times I need a bigger cutting surface, I use my 24x36 mat on the floor or on my quilting table (up to 48x 60 if I lower the sewing machine). I love the flexibility of my vintage 1970s ironing board (even as I hate the sound it makes when it opens or closes).
