I have never heard of this food, seed, or what ever category it fits in. Interesting info about your body needing to get used to them. I’m assuming you are using ground flaxseed. If you are ingesting them whole they won’t be digested and don’t provide any benefit. Yes, you would have to introduce the ground flaxseed in small amounts and build up. I also would suggest to make sure you are drinking plenty of water as that helps with the soluable fibre from the flaxseed. Hope you can figure out how to eat it without the discomfort.
