Default Fleece backing for baby quilt/blanket

This is the first time I have used fleece as a backing for baby quilt/blanket. The top is pieced cotton and I used fleece for a backing (no batting). I sewed around the perimeter, wrong sides together, then flipped it right side out. Sewed up the gap.

Here's the question. Do I need to tack the backing and the top together or can I just leave it? Should I top stitch around the perimeter? The quilt is about 38" x 46".

Any advice would be appreciated.
