I believe your machine was made by National, not Smith & Egge. Smith & EgWge made small chain stitch machines, not a full size (that I know of). Sewalot said it looked like a New Home, but I don't think so, even though they did make some for Wanamaker. Wanamaker was one of the badge names that National made per http://needlebar.org/main/makers/usa...l/index.html#w I can't quite tell which National machine yours is, but you can see it is very similar to the VB-Types as seen at http://needlebar.org/nbwiki/index.ph...uttle_Machines The ISMACS needle list does not list Wanamaker by National.

It looks like it has a broken needle. I think that this era of National machines took a 20x1 needle. If that is the case, some have dropped a15x1 needle a bit and will sew with it.
