Freezer paper, not waxed paper, generally works pretty well. I found better, as I do most things to make slightly oversized to start and then trim with nice crisp edges.

It would help to know the model of printer. Most printers have a "cardboard" or other sort of heavy stock/envelope pass through, usually involving manually feeding the sheets and opening a back door that might otherwise be hard to see.
