I love dates! Growing up, we had date bars and date nut bread.
My husband's mother was from Italy, so huge cookie trays were done at Christmas. One of them was a date ball; cooked on the stove. Dates, coconut and walnuts. Cooled to handle, then rolled in more coconut to make snowballs.
