Is the machine embroidery dense? If the motif is dense and stiff, I would outline stitch it and then do a background fill in the block to go along with the embroidery ( heart embroidery=heart meander) If the embroidery is light, you may need to put a bit of stitching through it so the centre of the block doesn’t wrinkle.
