Default Event Horizon art quilt

Hi all,
Here's a small (12" x 12") art quilt that I finished recently. It started out as a quilting play day with some rulers and leftover thread on scrap muslin. After I had my riding mishap, I wasn't able to work on larger pieces so, I decided to turn this one into a finished project. I used Inktense pencils to color this and liquified them using fabric medium. I also used a small mount of Jacquard Lumiere paint to highlight a couple of places. Then I re-quilted it using decorative threads and added some thread painting detail in as well. The backing was part of an old sheet I salvaged. The batting is leftovers that I pieced together. The threads are a combination of metallics and polyester embroidery threads. To finish the edges I overcast them and then using my overcasting foot and an overcasting stitch, I attached 2mm rattail along the outer edges. The piece is mounted on a wooden painting stretcher Frame so that it stands out from the wall a bit. I called it event horizon because it reminded me (in a very abstract way) of the stuff I've read about black holes in space which have something called an "event horizon" which is the point of no return where the gravity of the black hole is too strong for even light to escape.

Thanks for looking,
Rob
