I have the mini and have used some of the free patterns on the website (sewkindofwonderful.com). There is definitely waste, but usually the pieces fit perfectly once cut and sewn. My stash is large so I don't mind a little waste anyway. The directions have given me confidence that I can sew curved pieces using my machine - I used to do them all by applique but no longer.
