You do have a "left homing" machine and the straight stitch plate would be like the one at https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/1002...sewing-machine As you can see the feed dogs on the right side of the straight stitch presser foot.

It should last a good long while. Sometimes plastic parts become brittle and crack or break. Your machine looks like it has not been exposed to the heat and cold extremes that would hasten the deterioration of those parts
