I switched to Organ brand when i had my Janome MC 8900.
I could use other brands for regular sewing with no issues.
I had serious problems when trying to freemotion, though, until i switched to Organ.
fortunately Organ needles are a lot less expensive.
some machines are persnickity.
others, not so much.
all the advice given above is valid.
