The self threading has always worked for me on the 6600 but not on the 9400. Regarding the thread knotting I would suggest you
bring your thread on the left side of the take up lever instead of
right side. It will make a loop around the take up lever and that
should solve your problem. Lots of Janome users have this
problem and this usually solves it.
