one way is to cut one of the blocks patterns up - take each adding 1/2" around the edges for a template.
If in doubt, make a scrap trial block.
This is the way I do it, draw out the shapes, I draw them on freezer paper so I can press them on the fabric and cut a seam allowance around them for fussy cutting while FPP and knowing you have enough fabric.
