After you get the treadle and the head oiled up, practice before you sew. leave it unthreaded with the presser foot up and work on a steady rhythm. It is very easy to get ti wrong. that reverses the movement. If it is threaded, it will snap the thread and cause you to have to rethread it over and over. Work on the rhythm until you can talk to someone while you are treadling
