It's a dry iron with a steam setting. I doubt I will put water in it. it reheats in about 8 seconds and keeps hot enough to press seams and blocks. I doubt I'd press a big quilt top or a lot of yardage at one time. I got it yesterday and have been using it all day today to check it out. I'm pleased with it. It is very lightweight even when the carrying cover is on it. I bought it mostly for taking to retreat. No cords to mess with other then the base unit and it stays in one place.
I have the Reliable steam generated iron on my ironing table. It is attached to the base by a cord. Instant steam when I want it. No water in the iron. It is not portable.
