If you like the hand stitching part, and not excited over the machine top stitching, you can still do the handwork with your flange binding.

I just love the flange look, for that little knife edge of colour.

Howeverrrr ..... after using it on some projects, what I didn't like about the flange, was that despite how narrow the flange was, it would flip around a bit, and was worse after washing. So, the last few I've done, instead of stitching by machine at the end, I hand stitched on the front.

Lays flat, shows off that sliver of colour even batter,
because it is locked in place and stays even.
