I sort of had a bone to pick with the guy who ran the contest. Last year I won the people's choice with my "Bar Fly" (maybe I'll post a pic of that later), but anyway, he seemed somewhat offended by it, and made it virtually impossible to enter anything even remotely creative.

I even volunteered to be on the committee in order to come up with some categories for people to enter. I was thinking something like a "reclaimed" category wherein tiers had to make something using 3 things with a previous use or life, unrelated to fly fishing. At least he listened to the uproar of not having any kids' categories. (My son coached a kindergartener to win his age class as well, who also won the people's choice, but that's another story). Needless to say, the one man committee didn't want to have anything to do with that, so he did it his own way.

Sooooooo, short story long, I tied one "creative" fly complete with a write up that he wouldn't let the judges look at, nor the public. But to be able to show that my "serious" fly won was pretty cool to me.

Here's my "creative" Lucifer's Deceiver. For when good old fashioned skill and luck won't work...
