I looked at the MSQ youtube for the runner using the same pattern and agree--that's a whole pile of much too little pieces! If I may ask, how much did you upsize? What was the finished size of your block?
I used 3.5 inches for the HST and squares and 3.5 x 6.5 for the HRT, and the block finishes at 9.5. I chose a 8x10 layout and it finished at a generous twin. I used all FQ’s as I could not get it to work well with a layer cake when I was graphing it out.
