just to verify, I used paint boards, not canvases. the boards are thin and flat, (and cheaper) don't take up any room when not in use which is why I used them although I have both. .Lots of people cut foamcore I think so they can pin straight in, but if I need to pin I just stick it in parallel with the board. Nice cardboard is another practically free option with leftover batt bits
