After I open the envelopes, I make sure they are square and actually 2.5 inches. Candies with jagged edges always need a bit of trimming. I square up the ones that need it and throw any away that are less than 2.5 inches. This process is why I open my cards one per day. It would be work if I had to do all that for all of them at once.
Then they all go into a shoebox without any sorting whatsoever. I use mine randomly by value. I lay out the block I am working on making sure there is a contrast with the candies around it.
