Up here, it likes sun, but I do have some shade now as my trees have gotten bigger, same with my sister's patch. I was reading where rhubarb really likes cooler weather and needs some rest time where temps are low but.... they have been developing varieties that are more heat tolerant so check for warm weather varieties when you order this fall. As you probably get a ton more sun where you are then we do up here in Minnesota, I would think it would tolerate some shade. My rhubarb usually comes up fast in the spring before the leaves actually come out and is finished producing by July 4 which is when they recommend not harvesting anymore. By then it usually has also gone to seed, and the leaves will start to die off, but it is important to leave the leaves until they do to provide enough energy for next summer. Rhubarb does freeze well.
