I tried cutting up my scraps but then never had the right size when I needed that color. But if I know I am going to be making a specific type of quilt - ie: an I Spy Quilt with 5 inch squares or 3 inch hexagons I will cut them out before putting the fabric away. And I just separate them by colors or themes (Christmas, Halloween, Valentines, & Florals).
