Hmm, interesting that the manual (that I linked to previously) does say to lower the presser foot before drawing up the bobbin thread. I usually don't lower the presser foot to draw up the bobbin thread. Have you tried that? What are you working on? I have heard of some that will not drop the dogs, leave the presser foot on and set stitch length to zero. You could try without the lifting plate and reduce pressure as seen at
