That makes sense.

Is it possible it was close to where the dog was chewing? When my little dog goes on one of his rants, he shakes the object. (He loves the pillow covers in the second bedroom, especially when he doesn't get his way.) He's not chewing, he holding the object in his teeth and shaking it (he's going in for the kill).
