I have done exactly the same thing--on the first quilt I ever quilted on my DSM. It was a flannel baby panel for my first DGD. The panel had a bunch of animals hanging around a palm tree and a blue border with multi coloured polkadots. I found some flannel that was pretty close in colour to some of the polkadots and appliqued one over the cut as well as a bunch more in random spots. No one ever knew and it held up well over multiple washings.

Your fix is next to invisible. And quilt is beautiful!!
