I know this is a very tardy reply, but there is a Facebook group for Montgomery Ward sewing machines and I believe they have the manual for the J1980 in their files. You can downlead it for free. If you join that group there are a lot of helpful members who are great resources. BTW I have the UHT J1980 and find it to be a superb machine. I've been pretty hard on it over the years and I can tell it isn't QUITE the machine it was 20 years ago. Also, many MW machines have a nylon ZZ coupling underneath that cracks. Mine does, but until it falls off the machines keep sewing.
