One of my very first quilts was a French Braid. Now worn out. I used a walking foot and zig zagged beside the seams vertically. It helped emphasize the pattern. My only regret was that I went about a 1/4" out from the seam. If I had gone 1/8 inch, I could have caught the seam allowances. If you decide to go this route, just be sure to not always go from top to bottom. Turn it around and go from bottom to top to prevent bowing.
