If what you are wanting is more of a moisture resistant protection from the metal, I'd think freezer paper wold work pretty well with the coated side towards the metal and I wouldn't worry so much about being acid free or archival. Being in an unheated and non-air tight storage system, you may get some gradual mustiness but I don't think any yellowing. You might consider some sort of charcoal deodorizers like these

"Archival" storage options are usually pretty expensive. When I used cardboard boxes before my move, I did line the boxes with acid free/archival tissue paper because the acid level in cardboard is usually an unknown quality and depends heavily on what type of trees are used for the pulp.
