I think a stash is too much only if it becomes burdensome to the person who owns it. But in that case, there are lots of options for sharing the stash with others.
You are right, she is not a quilter! I do explain to folks who are surprised at the size of quilter's stashes that unlike painters, we cannot mix our colours to order. We have to have it in a fabric.
I like to just jump into projects without spending much if any time shopping for fabric, so my large stash really works for that kind of quilting. I also love improv...again a big stash is a big help in that enterprise.
