Thanks for the input. I don't think the problem is with the foot pedal and I'm not going to take it apart to look. It does the same thing with a brand new foot pedal so the issue might be something electrical. The machine is back in the closet. No Singer dealers around and I'm not sure I want to take it to the nearest repair place, which is about 50 miles one-way. If it was an expensive machine, I'd see about getting it fixed but I think I'll list it for sale and say what the problem is. I have 5 other machines. Need to thin the herd, anyway
