One of my Christmas guests will be a 15 year old young man who for several years has had an interest in Japan. He has a double bed. I have made the main part of his quilt from indigo Japanese fabric, using Japanese block designs-- Susan Briscoe "Japanese Quilt Blocks." The blocks are 7.5" and the quilt is now about 52 x 58" (QAYG). I don't have enough fabric left to make more blocks. I would like the quilt to be about 78 x 89 so it could fit either a double or queen sized bed. The quilt looks black and white but it is indigo. I was going to do three borders--one in solid indigo, a pieced border and a third in solid indigo. I pieced part of a border but thought it did not work at all. I am considering using a 12 or 14 inch wide solid indigo border but this seem to be a somewhat extreme solution. I have considered adding sashiko style machine embroidery to the border.

will heavily machine embroider the border. I am open to all suggestions. Make the quilt smaller? I do hope the picture is small enough that you can't see my many, many mistakes.
