Hi and welcome!
The kit at MSQC is a pretty good buy, so kudos to you for finding a bargain. I agree to the advice of doing something else if you don't want to buy all the BLOCK magazines. There's a video that shows how to do a petals on point block, the largest block in the Fire and Ice pattern. Maybe you could start with that and then add in some blocks you already know to fill in around those. It's not that hard to lay out a free form quilt like Fire and Ice, and you have plenty of fabric. I say go for it!
