I've done Y-seams a few times, and I've just marked a line 1/4" over from the edges of the fabric for the last inch, on each piece of fabric involved. Where the lines intersect is where you want to stop sewing. (See this
video at 0:37 for a nice illustration of the lines intersecting.)
I have made Y seams before by marking 1/4 in intersections but time consuming when it is a lot to mark. I thought the holes in this ruler might save time.
In the meantime, I found a YouTube video and am making my 8 point stars a different way with no Y seams.
Thanks everyone for your input. I think I’ll hold off buying a ruler for now. The 8 point Star I just made called for a special ruler. However I just used my 45 degree line on my rulers and came out perfect. I have 9 more stars to make before I can sew all the blocks together and show you. Of course it’s another Quilt of Valor-(smile)
