I feel your pain. I have been on the hunt for backings myself. Hubby ordered 5 battings and I have finally found the backings to finish the tops I have stashed away. So far I have finished three small 45" square ones I had the back and bats for.
Now I am waiting for the bats and backings to come in to start the larger queen quilts. I have lots of pieces of batting that I plan on making wallets for my sisters in laws for christmas. I have most of what I need for those on hand. Interfacing, the special fabric to stop id and credit card theft and some plastic for I D windows and zippers. So I will start those while I am waiting. To say the least, I have quite a sewing bout to get through this year.
But to the point of the backings, I found a couple at connecting threads.com that were large enough, reasonable enough and nice enough match to the tops to get them finished. You might check there. I found two on ebay that were a good price. Not as good as connecting threads, but okay.
