Small Trips
Hi Quilters! I had 3 jelly rolls of 20 each and pulled some fabrics left from another quilt of similar colors. However I used 50 of my bought JR strips and cut 50 from my stash leftovers. I made 7 blocks across and 8 down to make about an 80x91 top. I take a little bigger than 1/4 inch seam with my regular sewing foot as I always edge finish my seam allowances by pinking them. It still leaves me with a good seam allowance, because I only ‘tip’ the edges and also a clean non- raveling wrong side. Anyway the block was made with six 2.5 inch strips sewn together. I used instructions from a free tutorial from Bonnie Hunter. I will try to link below.
Do you think a meander stipple quilting all over will look alright? My first thought was a crosshatch but since I broke my wrist and shoulder on the same left side, it’s easier to do the stipple meander. Not a lot of choice is it?😩 This will probably be my give away at our family 4th of July reunion.
When we had our last reunion at my deceased in-laws family place I made each of the ladies a small personal gift from zip bags, embroidered kitchen towels to runners. I did this because I thought it was our last reunion. ( It is over 100 of immediate family as my hubby had 6 sisters and 5 brothers. However, my daughter didn’t want it to end so she and her husband most graciously host the reunions at their home. She wanted me to continue making and giving the gifts tho.
I made the 40-50 small gifts except for last year. I had broken my wrist a couple days after Mothers Day, so I pulled a quilt I had previously made and had a drawing, from the attending ladies. I may do that with this quilt if I can manage to quilt it in time. I will have to buy some backing first though.
It does get expensive to do this, not to mention the time spent, but most times I am happier making a quilt than all those smaller gifts. We will see what this year holds. I am blessed and thankful too that I have been fortunate to receive fabric pieces passed on, from either my sewing friends here at home or you friends, here on this board. I thank you again.
