Ah, you're my hero! I love rulers and love it when I make a quilt using a novelty ruler and it becomes so easy. I like rulers to be easy to use but my standard go-to rulers pretty much always on my cutting table are my 6x24 and 6 1/2" square.

I avoid applique, both machine and hand. Sometimes a pattern just cries to be done that needs applique and I will do it, but not very often.
