I've campaigned every year for our state to drop the time change, I too hope it comes to pass.
We long ago grew out of worrying about holidays, Rob was generally gone anyway, and now we don't celebrate any of them.

I believe post-pagan, Pope Gregory created the religious holidays as they are celebrated now, in the 1500's. so basically a modern construct also. All basically at this point shopping extravangas, which we also don't do, so all none of my business I guess other than opinion shared. Columbus day should hit the bin, he never was in the US area. History twisted to suit.

After the banks failed in 1929 congress eventually passed legislation that they couldn't be closed 4 days in a row and I vaguely recall the Monday holidays switch was so they could get 3 day weekends occassionally, and they threw in for federal and PO workers to sweeten to pot to get it passed. But that could be faulty memory...it's been a long time ago.

I now celebrate every single day as retired person, savor savor savor!
