I've gotten an off-the-board comment to keep the corn! And asking for a few more particulars. I wasn't able to save the Craig's List photo I got the inspiration from, but I did print out a hard copy for me One of the things I liked about that project was they did a color shift in that one. I still really like the color, think maybe 4-5 bars might be the right number and you can make it into any spiky flower you want by changing the colors. I think you could use a different green for each "stalk" to further differentiate the flowers.

But for this project, I find the all green grass restful and since it will be a donation, am keeping with that and not inserting my idea of fun into it I do like the alternating pieces instead of the steady Vs with most chevron designs. Ii will be going more random and not trying to stack the colors dark to light or anything like that...

I'm cutting the pieces from horizontal strips, rough cut 3.5" for finished width of 3". Is just a 45 degree angle. I made a template which I only use to place the ruler against, then take off -- it is about 13" point to point so I could use it to check the size of my scraps. Each side of the chevron measures 6.5" (raw), 6" finished.

For now, I've sewn most of the backgrounds into "2-fers" with greens. I have enough background for 10 2-fers for each side. I will just be trimming the tops and bottoms off... I think... I do have a bit left of the background but it will be easier to trim later rather than piece i. Not much, but maybe some.

The only thing to watch for is that the pieces must be mirror images, there are right and left sides!!! The is NOT an option where all you have to do is turn it around to work. The greens mostly came from my small sized pieces, that is 6.5" wide strips. Most of them were big enough that I could fold in half and get 2 from a piece, that makes your mirror images right there, the right sides together.
