DH claims "no one" has just one type of flooring throughout. He wants rooms to have different floor coverings including: ceramic tile in the entry, sheet vinyl in the kitchen, laminate planks in one bedroom, beige carpet in one bedroom, off white carpet in master and living room and dining room, and four different styles/colors of vinyl sheet in the four bathrooms and laundry. His opinion is that the different coverings help to define the rooms.

Since we are at a standoff, HE suggested I ask for YOUR opinions. Is it better to have consistent flooring or a variety?

PLEASE, tell us which house flooring concept would you rather live in?

Connie
You asked. We had hard wood flooring in every room except the kitchen and bath and they originally had hardwood until someone covered them with vinyl. I prefer carpeting in the living room and bedrooms with a nice pad. We now have ceramic tile in our kitchen, both baths and the entry which is fine and looks great and is easy to maintain.

My opinion is good luck and hopefully you can work it out to suit both of you.

We retired to a 55+ retirement community in FL and our new homes came with one carpeting in the dining, living room, bedrooms and closet. Ceramic tile or vinyl in the kitchen, bathrooms and entry. We love it that way however, during our 4-1/2 years here, almost all of our neighbors have pulled up ALL of the carpeting and replaced with ceramic tile throughout. I sure have no clue why as it's hard on the joints and as we get older that needs to be considered. Those who couldn't afford ceramic tile throughout have put in laminate in the bedrooms with vinyl or ceramic tile in the bathrooms.

It's honestly one of those personal preference rooms.

What rooms do you use the most? What rooms do you share and what rooms does he use the most. Can you compromise. I have carpeting in my sewing room and love it because I use my sewing machine without shoes.

Could you work out a compromise where you get to have what you want in the rooms important to you? and allow him to have in the areas important to him? Draw straws maybe. This is a tough one to compromise on when you both feel so strongly in different directions. That's how my hubby of 46+ years and I are as well and we've had to learn to listen and compromise. He wanted ceramic tile in the kitchen and baths where as I would have preferred anything else due to my joints. I'm doing fine though because I bought a great pair of Easy Spirit well cushioned shoes to wear in those rooms. The carpeted rooms I can go barefoot in.

Good luck and please let us know if your pole helps you work things out. Life is short and precious and although the home is precious to both of you, a good relationship is better. Good for you for doing the survey to get some input.
