Default Dryer setting

i was told by three different repairmen over the years to always use the more dry cycle to dry clothes. That cycle will stop when the clothes are dry. Time dry cycle will keep going no matter if the clothes are dry until the time is reached, wasting power more wear on the dryer. Also never turn the selection dial, if any, counter clock wise. Over time it will not move to off and will continue to keep the dryer running. Most think it's a failed part and it is but user error failed it. My daughter's dryer wouldn't turn off. The new dial was $160. The repairman asked her if she was turning it counter clock wise as that would eventually stop it from turning off. She never really believed me about dryer dos and don'ts. LOL
