Yay for finding happy homes for unwanted/unneeded/unfinished stuff! Way to go MaryKa, WMU and QuiltMom for your successful rehoming stories. :-)

I love that mystery UFO bag idea, WMU. We see a lot of UFOs and orphan blocks on our guild's free table and there are some wonderfully creative ladies who take those castoffs and turn them into masterpieces for our community quilts efforts.

Iceblossom, I agree that it's so great when the recipients have the opportunity to choose their quilts. A Soroptimist group up here runs a "free store" where people supported by social services (frequently those who are transitioning out of foster care or shelters) are given the chance to go "shopping" at this store to furnish their new homes, and quilts are among the offerings on hand. I love this idea - dignity and a sense of self-worth comes from having choice and agency in hard times.

I'm also digging through my scrap stash and am putting together some colourblock units that I hope will turn into something lovely. This is still an idea more than a plan but I have high hopes!
