I'm guessing that the pointed pocket is actually sewn so that the point is inside the pocket when the pocket is stitched on to form a flap of sorts to keep whatever in the pocket!?
ETA: I just looked at the picture of the one created by tapper shows it with the point out with a button sewn on, but the instructions don't show the point in the instructions.
