Hooray Pinkflowers, for both the top and the intended DiL and yes we will want pictures!!

Maybe you can incorporate the Flying Geese blocks in the backing? I also make little dog blankets or lately I've decided I might as well make pillow cases for my quilts and can use the blocks in those.

I'm glad you found an answer to your border. I was super lucky that my scant seams worked out so well, I'd have to go back and look but my width was almost 2" wider than the correct finished border, and I added an extra row as well. But it all magically came together more than from my math or expertise... OK, there was maybe a little fitting, but it sure looks nice and smooth finished.

Still learning my "new" machine, I think this is about a year now working with it. I think I need to run a project with a lot of long repetitive seams and get this seam allowance figured out. I really do prefer a "quilter's foot" with is marked with 1/4" seams both sides and front and back marks as well. I just have this smooth scant foot, I miss that quarter in front line too but that is an easy fix with a bit of tape and/or if I get really serious a file.
