"Correct" decorating dictates that you do NOT use multiple carpets. Choose a hard surface (for example, the vinyl that you like) and a carpet. If you have a lower level, you could choose another carpet, but don't put various carpets on one level. As stated earlier, you'd have trouble selling in the future and you'd be "stuck" with your color schemes in each room if you chose drastically different colors. Good luck!
