I found that keeping the fibers out of the cut marks helps it heal better and the mat lasts longer. Using one of these on the mat takes out EVERY BIT of the fibers, even after cutting batting on a rotary mat. You can find these at Michaels in the art department and you can also buy them from Creative Memories, the scrapbooking company.
