I am thinking of doing a lap quilt for our local Veteran's group to use in their fund raising efforts. Talking with them in the past, strange as it seems, they have mentioned they noticed that quilts that aren't just red/white/blue often attract more bids at the silent auctions. I don't know if people think it won't match their decor but dang, who wouldn't want a red/white/blue lap quilt??
Any way, I am thinking of sending 2 fabric choices - a blue marbled and an orange marbled for the blocks asking for whites to be used. These are our local HS school colors and this area is MAJORLY into HS sports so if you can't beat'em join'em.
My question is ... since this is for a Veteran's group, could I request a "star" type block? This would tie the 2 desires into 1 lap quilt. Would this be too big of an "ask" in the swap? I'd put a note of request on the label if it's allowed.
Possum Trot is in western Kentucky and spring is in the air (well it was until the last couple days). Thinking it would be nice out, I thawed a turkey breast and 2 pork tenderloins for my hubby to smoke today.
Turkey breast cut in half ...
1 half Cajun seasoning & 1 half blackened seasoning
1 pork tenderloin whiskey maple bbq seasoning then wrapped in bacon
1 pork tenderloin garlic parmesan seasoning
"Tasting" menu today then wrap some for freezer. Our smoker has to be tended every hour, manually putting the chips in, applewood chips today. Charles does a fantastic job of keeping it going and tending the smoker, even in this chilly weather.
Oh my goodness, we gorged ourselves on this feast of meats ... and some mashed taters and corn. Now I won't have to cook for a few days and will have plenty to stick in the freezer too.
Have a super rest of weekend to all.
Star Blocks are fun to make, And there are so many options.
The smoked turkey brings back memories. My father used to smoke the Turkey for Thanksgiving every year. It was so good. I miss that.

Lots of fun fabrics, welcome back Duckling.
Moon your smoked dinner sounds good, does your dh make his own bq sauce? This might sound strange but it is delicious, one of my favorite dinners is smoked meatloaf.
We had less than an inch of rain last night and the night before and we needed it desperately but boy is it humid out now. South Texas is in a draught and the dust blows so much it looks like you are driving into a fog in areas that have any construction and or the open area’s.
Starting to pack up my sewing room, thinking of not bringing my main sewing machine with next winter and just using my traveling one that is here. It’s not heavy duty but sews a nice 1/4”, which is all I really need here. I will have 6 months to make up my mind.
Our weather will be wet for the next 5 days. The temps are up and down this time of the year, so it will be cold and rainy.
