AprilM - Thank you so much. The squares were ones my grandma had precut. There were boxes of several different sizes and I chose the 3 inch because it had the most purple and brown tones and then I tried to make them repeat as much as possible. I did pick out the yellow and the purple that are in the centers because I wanted them to be extra cohesive with the sides being slightly larger blocks. Alot of the purple fabric is actually leftover from my childhood quilt which was based around a purple cat print in 1991, so that was fun.I knew I wanted something to break up the multiple borders and repeat the colors or patterns in the cats and I saw the squares and knew I could create something similar to the checks in the cat blocks.
