@dpendleton ... Thanks! To clarify from my comments last night ... I would only slice off the two 2-1/2" strips on the left and right of each 4-some-block. Stitch all back together. Then do the two 2-1/2" slices on the other two sides. Stitch ... and presto you have one darned pretty block ... and easy, too!

It could be quite a showy quilt no matter the colour-way you choose ... soft pastels? florals? middle of the road colourings? ... or go totally dramatic with bold colours? The stripe/background colourings could really change the looks.
