Remember, these smells are actually the chemicals vaporizing from the cutting mat. Baking soda, Fabreeze, etc. will only mask the odor. These products will not stop the vapor from escaping from the mat's surface. You will still breathe it in.
My advice is to return it to the store and also contact the manufacturer and explain that they need to "go green" and eliminate these odor causing chemicals in their products.
